CCT: VOL. 2

OK!

I´ve been notified that CCT:Chant Tool, appears on various pirate sites, which makes me a bit sad. I mean, come on? £17 for a hobbyist product! It´s not that much, is it? I mean, it doesn´t even come close to the giants in the sample idustry. So Why? Why can't you pirates let this be?

Dear reader, if you, by any chance, have a pirated version of CCT: Chant Tool, I beg you to consider to actually buy the library from Sampleism. By doing that, you support both Sampleism and a starving composer like me. By supporting me, it also make me want to create some new cool stuff for you in the future. So... like I said: If you own a pirated copy of CCT 1:Chant Tool, please... give it a second thought and buy the thing instead. Please... it´s just £ 17.

Even though... I´m ready to continue working on CCT 2... so I say:

It´s been.... a while! Yet, there´s gonna be a while longer. Now, I´ve finally got time to continue my next sample project. This time, I´ll put my aim at the sound designing composers out there, and my inspiration for the new library? Look at the picture, and have a guess... ;-)

As always: Don´t expect any fancy scripting or frills... it´s only Odd samples! And when it´s released: Please do not share it on Pirate sites! I´m sad to say, but if so, this might be the last library I create. After all, it´s a lot of hard work to create these sounds, even if it´s not tons of scripting in the library...

See ya in a near future, and happy composing!

CCT VOLUME 2

THE PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED, AND THE INSPIRATION IS BACK!

Last summer, I started on another sample library, but at the time I didn't know how to put things together. So I was putting that idea aside and started on the CHANT TOOL instead; and all my energy were dedicated to that Project. After the release of CCT-1, I still didn´t know what to do with my original idea, and also, my inspiration and energy was gone - UNTIL NOW!

I cannot tell exactly when CCT-Vol.2 will be released, but I can at least announce it´s in production!

So, until next time - A sneak peak (Please note, CCT-Vol.2 will be something very different than the Chant Tool.):

NEW CCT:Chant Tool Demo

Hi everyone!

I´m proud to announce a new epic demo, featuring CCT:Chant Tool:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAjCp82XJqA

The Music is composed by the talented Kurt M. Landre:
https://soundcloud.com/kmlandre

Kurt really nailed the concept in this piece. This is how the Chant Tool is supposed to be used.

Kurt also made some custom patches for the library, and you can download them for FREE here:

CCT:Chant Tool - Just a quick little reflection

(English is not my first language so bare with me)

Since CCT:Chant Tool was released, I´ve noticed some comments here and there on the internet regarding my very first sample library. The majority of them have been very positive, and it really makes me glad to see that CCT has made some sort of impression.

If you are one of those who owns a copy of CCT-Vol.1: Chant Tool, don't hesitate to tell me what you think or show me what you've created using the library. It would be awesome! You find my e-mail adress in the pdf provided with the KONTAKT instrument. Or, you can use the contact field on this blog, or just head over to my YouTube channel and leave a comment, and I´ll reply to you as soon as I can:

http://www.youtube.com/user/mattewester/videos

Since the response so far, has been positive, I´m really considering an expansion, or a "Chant Tool 2".  But, it depends on if I can gather the people involved, once more. Hopefully it won't be much of a problem though.

Since my latest idea for another library, has run into some sort of limbo, I guess a follow up of CCT:Chant Tool would be something to replace it with.

If you don't own the Chant Tool, just head over to sampleism and get your copy today:

http://www.sampleism.com/mattiaswestergren/cct-vol.1-chant-tool?sk=kt

You need the the full version of Native Instruments KONTAKT 5, to run the library.

Until next time!

ODD SAMPLES AND CCT-Volume 1

"WHAT IS ODD SAMPLES?"

Well, I´ll try my best to explain. (english is not my first language, so bare with me).

To begin with: Odd Samples is a very small hobby project of mine, with the goal to provide fellow composers with some unusual stuff. As I understand it, today's composers are constantly looking for new sounds, to keeping them interesting and fresh in the industry.

Soo look at it this way: Odd samples are trying to provide you with some bling, bling for your compositions and sound design.

Odd Samples started with my first ambitious sample library, CCT:Chant Tool, (See older posts),
which was originally meant to be used by me alone, for a personal project I´m working on. But then I thought: Why not offer it for sale, in case someone were interested in something like the Chant Tool? And there you go: Odd Samples were born.

The purpose is not, never were and will probably never be, to create the next go-to sample library! I was doing this for my own need in the first place. But since I´ve already sold a couple of copies of CCT:Chant Tool, it seems that there actually is an interest for my odd stuff.
So thank you guys!

"YEAH, THAT´S NICE... BUT WHO ARE YOU?"

I´m a hobby composer and sound designer, based in Sweden, who loves cinematic music and sound design. I might not be the new Ric Viers, John Williams, Hans Zimmer or Harry Gregson Williams, or any other great composer or sound designer, and I might not be as good as many of you guys. But I´m trying my best to make my own melodies in the genre I love, in my way, my style and in my own pace. Sadly, I´m not much of an music enginneer at the moment. But I´m learning.

"OK! BUT... WHY THE NAME ODD SAMPLES?"

Well, I guess that´s what it is. Odd stuff you probably won´t find anywhere else. Like I said, I´m not aiming to be the creator of the next go-to sample library.

"UHM... I DON´T LIKE WHAT I HEAR IN THE DEMO!"

I´m sad to hear! Too bad you won't give CCT:Chant Tool a chance, though. Like I said: I´m not the best Composer or engineer out there. The Demo is just to show the concept of the library, and also how the samples sounds. It´s not meant to be a masterpiece by any means. If you don´t like demo 1, have a listen to demo 2, for the out-of-the-box sound (the cricket sounds won´t be there in the actual instrument, so don't worry):

(Edit 2014): For an epic Demo of the possibilities of CCT:Chant Tool, please check out Kurt M. Langre´s composition here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAjCp82XJqA&feature=c4-overview&list=UUBnpuQ39jyok-ijps9k8-kQ

I was advised to leave the samples as neutral as possible, so that the user could tweak it to their own taste, and thats what I did. But... I also added versions of the patches, which are a bit edited. You can hear those samples as well.

"NO, I CHANGED MY MIND... I DO LIKE IT!"

Awesome! Just head over to http://www.sampleism.com/mattiaswestergren/cct-vol.1-chant-tool?sk=kt, and get your copy today! Only £ 17. You´ll probably make a much better track than me... and that would be even more awesome, and I really would love to hear it!

"WILL THERE BE A CCT-VOL.2?"

Yes! That's the plan.

If you wonder when you can expect a Vol.2, the answer is: I actually don´t know yet. All I can say is that CCT Vol.2 will be something very different than Vol.1, and that I´ve already started on the project.

Now, happy composing everyone! :-)

(A big thanks to the people at Sampleism, for the great support!)

CCT-VOL.1:Chant Tool Released

SO HERE IT IS!
After all the hard work, CCT-Volume 1 has become a reality. It took me about 6 months from concept to finished product, and lots of sparetime, mixing, editing and sample cutting. I´m lucky to have a wife who supports me and all my crazy ideas, otherwise I guess I´d been a head shorter by now.

CCT-Volume 1: Chant Tool, is the ODD answer to a choir library. But instead of singing, this library contains lots of different nonsense syllabeles, shouts, whispers and some bonus stuff like claps, stomps and snaps. In other words, this is for you who want to add some unique vocal stuff to your track.

This is my first ambitous sample project, originally meant to be used by me alone for a personal project, but since I thought there maybe were some fellow composers out there, which might been interested in something similar, I decided to offer it for sale.

You can get CCT Vol.1 over at sampleism.com, for only £ 17.

Please ensure you have the complete and latest version of Kontakt 5 (not the free player)

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET:

*: Three different samples per syllable combined into one, and also edited to get a bit bigger.

**: For the ”NATURAL” patches, I've picked the best version of the actual sample for each of the syllables. And the sound in these patches are, except from some simple editing like fade in or/and out and some mastering, the actual sound from the recording session.

All sounds were performed by 8 amateur perfomers, me included, and are recorded in:

24 bit 48 000 kHz.

I hope someone will find it useful to something.

I have plans for a new library – something different than this one, so now, when CCT-Vol.1 is finished, I guess I should get started on the new project.

Check out the Demos here:

If you think this is something for you, just head over to sampleism, and grab your version.
